Why this page matters more than it looks

Every answer Pam gives about your obligations depends on what kind of entity you are and where you are. A company limited by guarantee answers to the Corporations Act; an incorporated association answers to its state's Associations Incorporation Act; an ACNC-registered charity carries governance standards on top of both.

Set this wrongly and nothing breaks. Pam simply answers questions about the wrong law, confidently, and you have no way to tell from the answer.

Fields

Legal name — exactly as registered, not the trading name.

Entity type — company limited by guarantee, incorporated association, proprietary company, co-operative, or trust.

Jurisdiction — state or territory of incorporation. For an incorporated association this decides the Act entirely.

ACNC registration — if registered, the governance standards apply in addition.

After you change it

Pam uses the new settings immediately. Answers she gave earlier are not retrospectively corrected — if the settings were wrong, treat prior guidance as suspect and ask again.
